  • It was Pakistan's 491st and New Zealand's 377th match.
  • It was the 58th match between these two teams. The record now reads : Pakistan 34,New Zealand 22, abandoned one, tied one.
  • Umpires Doug Cowie and John Hampshire were officiating in their 58th and 16th match respectively.
  • Off-spinner Grant Bradburn was making a come-back to the side after a gap of about eight years and four months while missing 184 matchesa world record. He had last appeared against Sri Lanka at Colombo RPS on December 13,1992. He bettered the previous record of 157 matches which was held by another offspinner India's Ashish Kapoor, when he made his comeback against Zimbabwe at Kanpur on December 11,2000.The following table lists the players who made a come-back after missing 100 or more matches :

  • Bradburn's comeback period of 3042 days is the third best for the longest gap in terms of time. Only England's Wayne Larkins (see above) with 3553 days (9 years and 266 days) and Bangladesh's Faruk Ahmed with 3066 days (8 years and 144 days) in between his two appearances from 31-12-1990 to 24-05-1999 had taken longer time than Bradburn to make a comeback.
  • Chris Harris was playing his 28th match against Pakistan. He has now equalled Adam Parore's record of most appearances for New Zealand against Pakistan.
  • The catch of Chris Nevin was 25th for Inzamam-ul-Haq in floodlit matches. He has now equalled Ijaz Ahmed's Pakistani record of most catches in a career in floodlit matches.
  • Matthew Sinclair (117) made his maiden hundred in his 11th match. His previous highest was 85 against Zimbabwe at Wellington on 04-01-2001.
  • Sinclair's innings is the highest for New Zealand at this ground. This obliterated the previous highest of 96 by Robert Vance against Sri Lanka on 31-03-1988.Incidentally the previous highest for New Zealand against Pakistan at Sharjah was 93 by Adam Parore on 10-11-1996.
  • Jecob Oram (10 runs off three balls) now holds the record of scoring maximum runs in an innings of exactly three balls. The previous record was of nine runs jointly held by Pakistan's Mushtaq Ahmed (v Sri Lanka at Sharjah on 12-10-1995) and South Africa's Steve Elworthy (v India at Nairobi Gymkhana on 03-10-1999).
  • The third wicket unbroken partnership of 153 runs between Saeed Anwar and Inzamam-ul-Haq was Pakistan's best for this wicket against New Zealand in all matches bettering the previous record partnership of 152 between Shoaib Mohammad and Rameez Raja at Wellington on 08-03-1989.
  • Shahid Afridi (73) raced to his fifty off just 24 ballsthe second fastest fifty in all matches played at Sharjah after Simon O'Donnell's 18 ball fifty against Sri Lanka on 02-05-1990.
  • The fifty was also the fastest against New Zealand. Afridi improved upon Australia's Wayne Philips' 26 ball fifty at Wellington on 26-03-1986.
  • Afridi's six sixes equalled the record of most sixes by a batsman in an innings at this ground. Australia's Simon O'Donnell during his innings of 74 against Sri Lanka on 02-05-1990,India's Sachin Tendulkar during his innings of 124* against Zimbabwe on 13-11-1998 and Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya during his innings of 107 just a day before had also hit same number of sixes.
  • Imran Nazir and Afridi scored 27 runs off a Bradburn over with 26 runs coming from Afridi's bat. The sequence : 1 6 4 6 4 6.
  • Pakistan's scoring rate of 6.40 runs per over was the second best for a side batting second to win a match at Sharjah. India had beaten Zimbabwe by 10 wickets making 197 in 30 overs at 6.56 runs per over which is the record at Sharjah.
  • Shahid Afridi won Man of the Match award for the eighth time in his career.
