Aussie batsmen light up English domestic league

Sunday was a good day for many of the Australians who are playing county cricket in England. A trio of Aussie batsmen weighed in with centuries to boost their respective counties in the C&G Trophy, a 50-overs league, while Chris Rogers' 85 from 76 balls nearly took Northants to an unlikely victory at the County Ground.

Brad Hodge lifted Lancashire to a thumping 125-run success against Durham, his 118 coming from 105 balls, with ten fours and a six as Lancashire made 307. Dominic Thornely struck an unbeaten ton for Hampshire against Kent, and took 2 for 43 from ten overs, but his side lost off the last ball. It wasn't such a good day for his team-mate Shane Warne, who was in the unusual position of being the most expensive bowler of the seven-man attack - his solitary wicket cost 53 runs from ten overs.

Darren Lehmann also had a good day with the bat, though, his 118 not out boosting Yorkshire to an unassailable 341 against Northants at Headingley. Fellow Aussie Rogers threatened to spoil the party, sharing a fourth-wicket stand of 215 with David Sales, but Northants fell just two runs short.

Travis Birt, meanwhile, was the topscorer for Derbyshire, contributing 61 of their 206 as they squeaked a two-run victory against Warwickshire.
