Australia's World Cup cricket match against Zimbabwe remains in limbo.
Players voiced their concerns with officials from the Australian Cricket
Board (ACB) and the Australian High Commissioner in Zimbabwe at a
meeting tonight in Potchefstroom, South Africa, to discuss fears about
the game in Bulawayo on February 24.
ACB chief executive James Sutherland said Australia was still prepared
at this stage to play the game but the situation in Zimbabwe would
continue to be monitored.
"It was just another exercise for us in spending time with the players
to further discuss the issue that we've got at hand," Sutherland said.
"There's no hiding from the fact that the players do have some concerns
about Zimbabwe.
"What we're trying to do is make sure that they have as much information
as possible in front of them before we go to Zimbabwe.
"We're committed to working through a process with our players and
making sure they have all the information in respect to safety and
security."
Sutherland said one option available for the team was to restrict the
amount of time spent in Zimbabwe before the game.
Australia is scheduled to spend four days in Bulawayo but Sutherland
said that could be cut back to even include flying into the country on
the morning of the game and flying out that night.
