Police Cricketers In Line For Test, Says Empire Captain
Two Contests will attract most of the attention when the fourth round
of the Courts/Suzuki Division 1 cricket competition bowls off todays.
Leaders Police will oppose ICB Empire at Weymouth and defending champs
BNB St. Catherine tackle BET at Bayfield in the two hot clashes.
Police who have run to the top with three wins in as many matches take
on an Empire team which has been a bit hot and cold this season.
Empires big fast bowler Patterson Thompson has sent a warning to the
lawmen.
Police are on top but we will be their first, real test. We plan to
play hard and go all out for victory, Thompson said confidently.
He noted that Polices three wins so far have been against weak
opposition the two combined schools and lowly Mount Gay Maple and they
have not yet been really tested.
St. Catherine have been miserable all year losing two and drawing one
and will need a boost. BET have been batting well and St. Catherine
will need to get their act together.
Second-placed Big B Spartan will fancy their chances of a third
victory when they face CHIC Schools South at Lodge, a game that was
switched from Harrison College.
Spartan welcome back left-hander Philip Spooner, who will be playing
his first game in two seasons. The former Schools South batsman, who
replaces Shawn Hunte.
Cockspur Wanderers, who tackle Maple at Trents, welcome back Dwain
Gill, a former Schools South captain now vying for a place in the
Grenada national team. He fills in for captain Mike Edwards, who is
overseas.
The new skipper is Gary Pedro, but left-arm pacer Pedro Collins is
also expected to be absent. The West Indies A player is slated to play
in the Jamaica County Championships which bowls off next week.
The other games are: United Carlton vs BCL at Black Rock, CHIC Schools
North vs Banks at Ashton Hall, and Sports & Games YMPC vs ESA Field
Pickwick at Beckles Road.
