The Indian board has threatened legal action against Doordarshan, the national television broadcaster, for infringement of media rights by exceeding the telecast timing of match highlights during the ongoing India-Australia series.
"It has been observed that during the ongoing tour of Australia to India some national news channels are showing large amount of match clips," a BCCI press release said. "The [Doordarshan] National news channel has been showing match clips amounting to as much as 150 to 200 minutes in only 24 hours, a bulk of these clips are shown when the match is on.
"Showing the large number of match clips leads to infringements of our media rights which results in to huge loss and irreparable damage and we shall have no other option then to take legal action."
As per the international norms, every channel will only be allowed to air a maximum of two minutes of clips, with each clip being no longer than 30 seconds.
