The Zimbabwe Cricket Academy year has ended and this year's players have been allocated to the various provinces. The Academy year lasts eight months; in previous years a four-month gap has been taken from May to August to allow the players to experience club cricket in England. This year, however, due to visa difficulties and the winter tours taking place in Zimbabwe, it was decided to run the eight months from January to August and then allocate the students to the provinces immediately, instead of the following January as usual.
Director Gwynne Jones has now left the Academy to take up a top post with the Scottish Cricket Union on a three-year contract. He has done an outstanding job in getting the Academy off the ground, and he also feels the Academy no longer needs a full-time director now it is established.
The allocation of this year's Academy players to the provinces is as follows:
Mashonaland: Ryan Butterworth, Nyasha Chari, Guy Croxford, Andre Neethling, Barney Rogers.
Matabeleland: Keith Dabengwa, Wisdom Siziba, Matthew Townshend.
Manicaland: Ian Coulson, Justin Lewis, Leon Soma.
Midlands: Terry Duffin, Sean Ervine, Campbell Macmillan.
Masvingo: Blessing Mahwire.
