Cricket Australia to split high performance role into two jobs

Cricket Australia will split the high performance role previously held by Pat Howard into two positions in an acknowledgment that the job had become too big for one person.

The role will now be divided into an executive general manager of high performance and an executive general manager of national teams.

The first of those positions will focus on working with the state and territory associations around domestic competitions, national championships and premier cricket.

The national team role will focus on the performance of the Australia men's and women's teams. CA have said the candidate will need an understanding of playing, coaching and management with CEO Kevin Roberts previously saying the job may not be filled by a former player.

"After reflecting on the EGM Team Performance position over the home summer, we have made the decision to split responsibilities across two roles to enable greater focus on the many dimensions of a complex role," Roberts said. "The recruitment of these two roles will round out CA's new executive team and set us up for success as an organisation on and off the field.

Belinda Clark, who has filed the role in an interim basis since Howard left, will continue in the position until the two appointments are made.

Howard left CA in early November shortly after it was confirmed he would not be seeking an extension to his contract which was due to expire later in 2019. It came amid the purge of senior figures at CA in the wake of the Longstaff review into the culture of the board following the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa

Speaking to SEN Radio on Tuesday, Roberts said he hoped the recruitment would be completed at some point between the World Cup start and the beginning of the Ashes.
