The one-off Test between England and New Zealand's women ended in a draw on the fourth and final day after the entire third day was lost to rain. New Zealand batted through just over 58 overs on the rain-affected final day, with Maia Lewis scoring 60 out of a total of 149 for 3.
England took a lead of 70 into the final day, and despite the limited amount of time left, there was still a possibility of a result in the match. But Paula Flannery (18) and Maria Fahey (39) got New Zealand off to a solid start, after which Maia Lewis secured the draw, smashing 10 fours in her second Test half-century.
After Lewis was caught behind by Jane Smit off the bowling of Kathryn Brunt, the debutant, Haidee Tiffen (26*) and Rebecca Rolls (0*) batted out the remaining balls with further alarm before the rain returned and the game was declared a draw. Rolls, who scored 71 in New Zealand's first innings, also made her Test debut in this game, somewhat bizarrely as she has already played 78 one-dayers for New Zealand.
