England took the game by the scruff of the neck on the third day at Taunton. Following James Hildreth's heroic double-century yesterday, England fought back with an excellent allround bowling performance, led by Luke Wright, to restrict Bangladesh to 171 for 7, a lead of just 48, going into the fourth day. Aftab Ahmed's 91 ensured that Bangladesh were spared from humiliation, but they face a tough battle if they are to set England a competitive total.
After a delayed start because of rain, Bangladesh lost Shahriar Nafees early after he had added just one run to his overnight score (25 for 2). Dhiman Ghosh began positively, but he didn't last long either and became Wright's second victim when he was bowled for 10 (38 for 3). While Ahmed blasted away at the other end, Mohammed Nazimuddin scratched around for 20 balls before he was caught by Alastair Cook off the bowling of Simon Cusden for 4 (67 for 4).
Then came an aggressive 88-run partnership between Ahmed and Nadif Chowdhury which temporarily threatened to take the game away from England, but Hildreth struck, having Chowdhury caught behind by Steven Davies for 33 to take back the initiative (155 for 5). Mushfiqur Rahim hung on doggedly, taking 36 balls for his single, but he was eventually trapped lbw by Michael Munday (167 for 6).
Ahmed had looked set for a hundred, but he fell nine runs short soon after Rahim's dismissal, signalling the end of the day's play.
