Lahore, Nov 14: England reinforcement Andrew Flintoff was injured in a
freak accident while middle-order batsman Michael Vaughan was ruled
out of the first Test starting here from Wednesday.
Flintoff, who arrived here in the wee hours of Tuesday, bled profusely
after being hit on the nose by a local net bowler from a rising
delivery.
Flintoff, who had asked the bowler to dig in short, failed to connect
the bouncer and got it struck off an edge. He was rushed to a local
hospital. It was, however, not known if he had sustained a fracture.
In the meantime, Vaughan lost his race for fitness in time when he was
ruled out because of a calf injury. He underwent a final fitness test
but failed.
His calf remains heavily strapped.
