At a Press Conference held at the Wanderers Stadium on Monday 7 July 2003, the Gauteng Cricket Board announced their new captain for the Highveld Strikers for the 2003/04 season. HD Ackerman was announced to take over the captaincy from Clive Eksteen with Adam Bacher being named vice-captain.
This would be no new task for HD Ackerman as he has captained Western Province before. He has a big task at hand getting the Highveld Strikers back on a winning streak and will be working with a combined team of experience and youth. He said that he is looking forward to playing and working with the likes of ex-captain Clive Eksteen and Adam Bacher, as they have so much experience and talent to assist him.
"It is an honour and a privilege to be offered the position of captain" said Ackerman.
Mr Alan Kourie, Chief Executive Officer, said that the Gauteng Cricket Board have been planning the future of the team for a while and have contracted experienced players to strengthen and teach the younger players. He thanked Clive Eksteen for his services throughout the year and said "Gauteng Cricket could never thank Clive enough for what he has done".
Clive Eksteen confirmed that from now it is work as usual and is looking forward to the new season. He said that this is one of the steps to show that Gauteng are serious about getting back on top.
