National League Division One
Table
Surrey 143 for 5 beat Kent 142 by five wickets at Canterbury
Scorecard
Baring a series of freak results, Surrey effectively secured the National League title thatnks to a superb allround performance from Adam Hollioake. He ripped the heart and soul out of Kent's innings with 6 for 17, and then steadied a wobbling ship with a solid 38. Kent were ambling along on 109 for 3 when Hollioake came on. He took his six wickets in 28 deliveries as Kent lost their last seven wickets in nine overs. At 73 for 4 Surrey were in danger of making a mess of the chase, but Hollioake and a patient Mark Ramprakash (42*) saw them home.
National League Division Two
Table
Sussex 249 for 2 beat Middlesex 248 for 6 by eight wickets at Hove
Scorecard
Sussex climbed off the bottom of the table with a convincing win that effectively ended Middlesex's faltering bid for promotion Despite having to chase a stiff target with the handicap of batting in the evening dew under lights, Chris Adams (115) and Murray Goodwin (118) made it all look easy with a competition-record third-wicket stand of 228. Adams' hundred came off 116 balls, Goodwin's 119. Middlesex had appeared to have done more than enough to see off Sussex when Paul Weekes (91) steered them to 248 for 6. That was less than had seemed likely at one point as Robin Martin-Jenkins (4 for 46) stifled the flow of runs in the final overs
