Arshad Khan face the axe as Pakistan cricketers assemble for a short
training camp starting from Oct 20.
The players, who arrive on Tuesday for Wednesday's festival match,
will prepare for the first one-day international against England to be
played here on Oct 24.
According to sources, Ijaz, who scored just one in Pakistan's semifinal defeat in the ICC knockout tournament, and Arshad, who went for
56 from his nine overs, will not be considered for the one-day and
Test series'.
The national selection committee has submitted one-day and Test teams
to the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Lt Gen Tauqir Zia
who will be discussing the squads with the captain and coach on
Wednesday.
The selectors have named wrist spinners Mushtaq Ahmad and uncapped
rookie Danish Kaneria, and pinch-hitter Shahid Afridi in the 15-man
one-day squad.
"Shahid Afridi will come in place of Ijaz Ahmad while Mushtaq Ahmad
will replace Arshad Khan. Shahid is being brought back to give the
captain more bowling options," official sources said.
Younis Khan, the middle-order batsman from Peshawar, has been named in
the 16-man Test squad.
