Lancashire are hoping to stage a third floodlit AXA League match at
Old Trafford this season.
Following the huge success of the last game, against Worcestershire,
they have opened negotiations with Hampshire, who they are due to face
on Sunday, September 6.
That is the day after the NatWest Trophy final, and as Lancashire were
drawn away at Hampshire in the semis yesterday, one of the sides is
guaranteed to be at Lord's. This would force Lancashire to switch the
AXA match to the following week, which has created the ideal chance to
squeeze in a third floodlit match.
Lancashire have only three more home AXA League games left, facing
Leicestershire and Gloucestershire on the next two Sunday afternoons.
"It will be a good chance to compare the crowds for those games with
the 9,000 we had for the Worcester game under lights," said club
spokesman Ken Grime.
Meanwhile Aussie skipper Peter Sleep rescued the second team, aiming
to retain their own championship title, on the first day of their
match against Derbyshire in Cheadle, Staffordshire. Sleep hit 83 to
steer Lancashire to 255-7.
