CHRIS Schofield was facing a touch test of his championship mettle at Colwyn Bay today.

The 19-year-old leg spinner has had a difficult Lancashire debut so far, failing to take a wicket in 29 overs and conceding 139 runs.

But he deserved much better than those figures as he still showed a lot of promise with two edges going through Wasim Akram at slip.

And he was set for a second chance in the Glamorgan second innings today.

Lancashire resumed on 42-1, with a lead of 25, and were looking for quick runs before setting Glamorgan a run chase.

They lost Nathan Wood late yesterday, lbw to a good ball from Steve Watkin. But for the second time in the match Paddy McKeown got his head down in an effort to boost his claims as a regular opener.

He grated 33 overs for 20 in the first innings and yesterday took 21 overs to reach 21.

Ian Austin was easily the pick of the Lancashire bowlers in the Glamorgan innings taking 4-33 in 16.5 overs.

But they still claimed a lead of 17 before declaring on 383-8 with youngster Wayne Law hitting an impressive 131. Matthew Maynard was recovering all the time and expected to bat in the second innings today.
