Australian overseas player Michael Cant, ripped apart the record books
on Saturday with a brutal display of batting, which set new standards at
the club. Having been dropped at short leg, with the score on zero, Cant
went on to score the highest individual score, in the history of Windsor cricket
beating the previous best by 64 runs.
Indeed, 7 other records were broken, including the highest ever first wicket partnership, which was smashed by 61 runs, as Paul Huggins struck a fine 79 not out.
At the tea interval however, the outlook was very bleak. Amersham had
amassed 315 in 45 overs, thanks to some fine batting from R.George, who struck 181, assisted by three dropped catches and woeful fielding from the Windsor side. Presented with a maximum 55 overs to get the runs, Windsor required nearly 6 runs per over.
However, Cant and Huggins soon led the charge. Paul Huggins, held down
one end, allowing Cant to let loose. Despite the early chance, Cant gave
nothing away as he accelerated to his first century for Windsor, followed by a
first double ton the Club has ever seen. Cant struck 11 sixes and 22 fours on
his way to his record score as Windsor sauntered to victory with 10 wickets
and remarkably 10 overs to spare.
