"I was a part of India's World Cup squad when we reached the final in 2003 and hope to be involved again next time," Mongia, who is currently captaining Punjab back home in India, told BBC Sport. "Achieving consistency is undoubtedly my number one objective next summer, particularly in the Championship."
Mongia performed reasonably well last summer - averaging just over 40 and accumulating 684 first-class runs - but his best performances came in the Totesport League where he made significant contributions with bat and ball as Leicestershire fell agonisingly short in their bid for promotion from the second division.
"There is no doubt that he is a very talented cricketer with considerable international experience," said Leicestershire chairman Neil Davidson. "And he has made it very clear to us that he wants to make more of an impact next season."
