Jackie McGlew passes away
Jackie McGlew, the former South African Test captain, died of leukaemia in Pretoria last night. He was 69.
An opening batsman of near perfect technique and legendary tenacity, McGlew, who captained his country 14 times, played 34 Test matches in which he scored 2,440 runs, at an average of 42.06.
McGlew's 105 against Australia at Durban in 1957-58 was until 1977-78 the slowest Test century on record, consuming 545 minutes.
Northants qualify
