Restraining order against Tamil Union and CCC
by Peter Christie
Colombo Additional District Judge K.T.Chitrasiri issued an enjoining
order restraining the Colombo Cricket Club (CCC) and the Tamil Union
Cricket Club (TUCC) from playing the semi-final Second Division
Tournament cricket match.
This was in sequel to a plaint filed by the Ragama Cricket Club (RCC)
who submitted that the Tournament Committee of the Board of Control
for Cricket in Sri Lanka had unlawfully held that the CCC had
qualified to take part in the semi-final match of the second division
cricket tournament despite the fact that they (RCC) had by their
performances during the entire season and as stipulated by the rules
and regulations governing the tournament, qualified to play.
The plaintiffs filed plaint through their secretary Roshan Abeysinghe,
Emil Dias their captain and Chaminda Hettiarachchi their vice captain
and cited Thilanga Sumathipala, President of the BCCSL and twenty one
other members of the Board and its tournament committee as
respondents. Mr. Saliya Pieris instructed by S.N.Ihalathanthrige
appeared for the plaintiffs.
