Thirty-one KCCA zonal officials elected unopposed

KARACHI, Aug 13: As many as 31 of a maximum 35 posts of the seven
zones of the Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) were elected
unopposed for the next three-year term on Thursday after the
withdrawal of various candidates ahead of the zonal polls, scheduled
for Aug 16 (Sunday).
While releasing the names of the elected office-bearers of the seven
zones of the KCCA, chairman of the Election Committee, Prof
Hashma-tullah Lodhi, said that altogether 81 nomination papers were
issued for the posts of chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, joint
secretary and treasurer for each zonal office, and out of which 44
nomination papers were returned to the committee for the remaining
five posts.
Prof Lodhi added that five contestants withdrew their candidatures
while one nomination paper was rejected for late submission.
Interestingly, 16 new faces were elected unopposed, including all
five from Zone-II. The remaining 11 are Laiquddin and Mahmood Anwar
of Zone-I, Raziq Hussain Rabbani and Aziz Noor Mohammad of Zone-III,
Asim Jamil of Zone-IV, Khalid Nafees, Saeed Jabbar, Hasan Abbas Abedi
and Riazul Hasan of Zone-V, Salman Ahmed of Zone-VI and Imran Sibtain
and Ashraf Ali Hashmi of Zone-VII.
The tussle for the remaining four posts throws up Musarrat Raza
against Amjad Ali for the vice-chairman of Zone-IV. Likewise, Razi
Ahmed Malik is up against Sadiq Shaikh for Zone-VI's
vice-chairmanship.
Mohammad Akram Khan, the sitting Zone-VI secretary, is pitted against
Shamsur Rehman while Azam Khan is contesting against Mohammad Zada
for the joint secretary's post of the same zone.
The balloting for the remaining posts in the two zones will be held
between 2.30 p.m to 5.30 p.m, on Sunday.
Apart from Prof Lodhi, the KCCA Election Committee includes Rafat
Hussain and Abrar Ahmed as members with Sarwar Mohammad Khan as the
secretary.
The following were elected unopposed:
Zone-I
Umar Siddiqui (chairman, Shahab Kirmani (vice-chairman), Aftab Ahmed
(secretary), Laiquddin (joint secretary) and Mahmood Anwar
(treasurer).
Zone-II
Badar Jaffery (chairman), Nawab Hussain (vice-chairman), Zubair
Muhammadi (secretary), Jamil Ahmed (joint secretary) and Afzal Sherry
(treasurer).
Zone-III
S.M. Inam (chairman), Raziq Hussain Rabbani (vice-chairman), Hameed
Khatri (secretary), Siraj Palla (joint secretary) and Aziz Noor
Mohammad (treasurer).
Zone-IV
S.M. Adil (chairman), Intizar Ahmed (secretary), Shakeel Siddiqui
(joint secretary) and Asim Jamil (treasurer).
Zone-V
S.M.I. Bukhari (chairman), Khalid Nafees (vice-chairman), Saeed Jabbar
(secretary), Hasan Abbas Abedi (joint secretary) and Riazul Hasan
(treasurer).
Zone-VI
Haji Iftikhar Ahmed (chairman) and Salman Ahmed (treasurer).
Zone-VII
M.M. Baig (chairman), Ghulam Waaris (vice-chairman), Sarwar Hussain
Khan (secretary), Imran Sibtain (joint secretary) and Ashraf Ali
Hashmi (treasurer).
