Karachi, May 15: Justice Malik Mohammad Qayyum, who investigated the
charges of betting and match-fixing on Monday said it was upto the
cricket board to implement whatever recommendations he has suggested.
"My job was to recommend decisions after I carried out in-depth
investigations. But it is entirely upto the Pakistan Cricket Board
(PCB) which recommendations it wants to implement," the judge said
from Lahore. "The PCB is entitled to be selective because it is an
independent body," the he added.
The Lahore High Court judge refused to comment if the players against
whom he has recommended action can challenge the decision in the court
of law. But he hoped that the board would implement all the
recommendations.
"If the board doesn't want to implement all the recommendations, then
what's the point of carrying out in-depth investigations," he said.
The judge said he would neither be disappointed nor satisfied if the
recommendations were implemented. "My job was to suggest what I feel
after investigating the matter for more than two years.
"But I am glad that the PCB would be publicizing the report because
not many judicial commission investigations have been released," he
said.
The judge denied giving any interview to The Telegraph which quoted
him as saying that he had recommended life bans against Salim Malik
and Mushtaq Ahmad.
"All I can say is that I haven't released any contents of my
investigations." I will only talk on it once the PCB releases the
report," he said.
