Karachi, Jan 4: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ad hoc committee
chairman Lt-Gen Tauqir Zia said on Tuesday he was not happy with the
junior selection committee that picked the squad for the Youth World
Cup starting in Sri Lanka from Jan 12.
He said he received a number of complaints against the selectors where
certain objections were made.
He said when he investigated, he found out that at least two deserving
players were left out.
"But I didn't interfere because the team had been selected and if I
had made changes, it would have left a bad impression. But at least
one player who was omitted was asked to attend the junior camp," he
said.
Controversy erupted when Ashar Zaidi was named to replace Shoaib
Malik. Zaidi was not named in the reserves list. His inclusion meant
no place for off-spinner Tahir Khan who was not only named in the
stand-byes but four out of the five selectors had voted for his
selection. But the chairman of selectors Agha Zahid took a unilateral
decision to include Ashar Zaidi.
