LAHORE, June 7:
Two cricketers Aamir Sohail and Basit Ali and one sports journalist
Fareshtey Gattey on Sunday recorded statements before the Pakistan
Cricket Board Probe Committee (PCBPC),
investigating betting and gambling charges against some Pakistani
cricketers.
The PCBPC chairman Justice Ijaz Yousuf told reporters after presiding
over the meeting at the Qadhaffi Stadium that the committee was
calling only those persons who made allegations against cricketers.
"After hearing all those the committee will move to call Wasim Akram,
Salim Malik, Waqar Younis and Ijaz Ahmad, allegedly involved in
betting and gambling practice," Justice Yousaf said.
He said that at the meeting, the PCBPC would invite former captains
Ramiz Hasan Raja and Rashid Latif. Justice Ijaz Yousuf, however, did
not give any date for the next meeting.
Justice Ijaz Yousuf said that the committee has also decidedto call
the managers and coaches who had been working withthe nationalteam
since 1992. Among them, Intikhab Alam,AsadAziz and Haroon Rashid were
prominent, he added.
The committee, he said, would also register statements of the PCB
chairman Khalid Mahmood and chief executive Majid Khan, besides using
video cassettes of the matches to determine the style of play of such
cricketers under special playing situation.
Justice Yousuf has also allowed the general public to record their
statements with evidence if they had.
To a question, Justice Ijaz Yousuf said that the committee could not
call bookies in this case.
He said that the main purpose before the committee was only to reach
the realty as such allegations had defamed the country at
international level.
He said that the PCBPC had to submit its findings before the Senate
Sports and Cultural Committee before July 31,but hinted, if necessary,
the date would be extended.
The PCB secretary Waqar Ahmad, Nusrat Azeem and Mian Munir also
attended the meeting as members of the probe committee.
