PCB slaps fine, ban on Afridi
LAHORE, Nov 15: Pinch-hitter Shahid Afridi was imposed a fined of Rs.
25,000 and banned from playing two Patron's Cricket Trophy matches.
The fine was imposed on the all-rounderbythe disciplinary committee
chairman Taalat Ali Malik for playing in Bangladesh without seeking
permission from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The left-arm spinner
Muhammad Hussain who was also called to appear before the committee on
the same charge did not turn up. Name of Shahid Afridi was recommended
by selection committee to be included in the Pakistan under-19 team
which will tour Australia, but the PCB Council decided to drop him.
Only Talaat Ali Malik was present in the disciplinary committee meeting
when Shahid Afridi appeared before him. He consulted another member of
the committee, Ashraf Qureshi, on telephone in Rawalpindi before
announcing the decision. Another member Sikandar Bakht is reported to be
out of Pakistan these days.
