Roddy Smith takes over at Scotland Cricket

Roddy Smith has been appointed as Scotland Cricket's new chief executive, replacing Gwynne Jones, who stepped down eight months ago.

Smith, 36, a former Scotland representative himself, told the BBC: "I am looking forward enormously to my new role, one that will afford me the opportunity to combine significant professional experience gained in the governance and management of governing bodies, with the sport that I have been involved with all my life."

He went on: "Although Cricket Scotland has made significant advances in recent times, there are many critical issues that will form the cornerstone of my work. In particular, we have to listen and learn from our members and partners and act together to move our sport forward."

Smith takes over at a low point in Scotland's cricket fortunes. They failed to qualify for last year's World CUp or the forthcoming Champions Trophy, and have also struggled in the National League this summer, with only one win in their 17 matches to date.
