This is not just my favourite cricket story, but Sachin Tendulkar's too. In our school days, we were playing a match against Morarji at Mumbai's Cross Maidan. I was on strike, on 127, and Sachin was on 157, when a kite flew by me. The bowler had already started his run-up and was about to deliver when I stopped him. I grabbed the dangling string of the kite and started to fly it. At first everybody was just amazed; eventually the entire team started laughing. Afterwards, we gathered for the post-match analysis with Ramakant Achrekar Sir, which was always conducted very seriously. We were going through the motions when he paused to bring up one point: "Vinod Kambli - flying kite." He was furious and slapped me so hard that I started crying. It was the hammering of my life! At the back, I could see Sachin laughing away. That's why he calls it the funniest moment of his life.
