Somerset Blind team to be formed after good response from visually impaired

The weekend training session that the England Blind Cricket team held at the County Ground in Taunton over the last two days has been hailed as a great success by Andrew Moulding the Somerset Cricket Development Officer.

This morning Mr Moulding told me: "The England Blind Cricket team were just incredible to watch, they threw themselves about all over the place and did amazing things when they fielded out on the pitch. Watching them play it was hard to believe that they were all visually impaired"

The visit to Taunton by the international players was part of the build up for the England team ahead of their overseas tour to India this winter, where matches between the two sides will draw crowds well in excess of 10,000.

On a more local level Mr Moulding was delighted with the response that the offer of free coaching for local visually impaired people received on Sunday.

He told me: "We had a good number here for the taster session, enough in fact to go ahead and try to form a Somerset Blind team for next season, which is very good news for those who are visually impaired and want to play cricket."
