The Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka (BCCSL), through the Assistant Secretary of its Interim Committee, Kushil Gunasekera, released the composition of its squad to defend the Asia Cup which Sri Lanka won at home in 1997. The squad is: Sanath Jayasuriya (capt) Mahela Jayawardena (vc), Aravinda de Silva, Mavan Atapattu, Russel Arnold, Tillekeratne Dilshan, Indika de Saram, Muttiah Muralitharan, Rumesh Kaluwitharne, Chaminda Vaas, Upul Chandana, Nuwan Zoysa, Sajeewa de Silva and Kaushalya Weeratne.
The Asia Cup is a tournament among the four South Asian cricket playing
nations India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangalesh. It was first played in 1986 in Colombo, which Sri Lanka won, and is played bi-annually. The
tournament is hosted by Bangladesh this year and begins on May 28th and
played over 10 days.
