Sri Lanka Cricket Fund 2000 moves to Australia
Cricket Fund 2000,the brain child of Sri Lanka Cricket Board
president Ana Punchihewa will move to Australia where Sri Lanka's
cricketers are currently on tour.
The fund will be launched in four states where Sri Lanka are
billed to play. Punchihewa will handle Melbourne (on December 22)
and Brisbane (January 5), while Cricket Board vice president Thilanga Sumathipala will introduce it in Perth, prior to the first
Test starting on December 8 and in Sydney (on December 21).
Cricket Fund 2000 was initially launched in England on May 29
where an initial contribution of 900 pounds sterling was collected after a seven-a-side match between Sri Lanka Cavaliers led by
Sri Lanka captain Arjuna Ranatunga and an International Cavaliers
side captained by former England cricketer Chris Cowdrey. Sri
Lanka will meet Queensland X1 in a one day limited over `tour
opener' match in Cairns on Sunday.
