The Dickoya Maskeliya Cricket Club which has a history of 129 years,
started by British planters in 1870, has undertaken a massive
fund-raising project to upgrade the two ancient billiard tables which
are over 75 years old.
The DMCC will be transformed into typical carnival on February 13,
beginning with a snooker tournament which will be held amidst
scintillating live calypso music. Many more colourful events are on
the card on February 13.
On February 13, the DMCC has organised a Valentine Dance and the
highlight of the event will be the selection of the Valentine Queen
in the early hours of February 14, Valentine Day.
On February 13, the day's program will begin with an Open Snooker
Tournament which is open to all snooker clubs in Sri Lanka. Entries
for this tournament will close on January 31, and should be addressed
to Ananda Subasinghe Billiard Convenor, Dickoya Maskeliya Cricket
Club, Dickoya. Valuable prizes are being offered to the winners as
well as runners-up
Mr. Subasinghe said the event is being organised with the unstinted
co-operation of the President, DMCC, Raja Brodie and Secretary, Ranga
Gunasekera. All members of the DMCC have extended their fullest
co-operation towards making the event most memorable, Mr. Brodie
said.
The DMCC has become the most prestigious planters' clubs in Sri
Lanka, situated in the beautiful hill country of Dickoya covered with
golden tea plantations. It has a large scale membership.
