Ananda confront Joes
Ananda will confront St.Joseph's College in the under 17 Singer trophy
Division one cricket tournament semifinal at Ananda Mawatha today and
tomorrow.
This tournament is conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket
Association (SLSCA) and sponsored by Singer Sri Lanka Limited. In the
second semifinal S.Thomas' College will take on Royal 'A' on August 8
and 9 at Mount Lavinia.
In the under 17 Division two tournament S.de S.Jayasinghe MV, Ananda
Sastralaya Kotte, Royal 'B' and Revatha MV Balapitiya have already
qualified to play in the semifinals. The masters in charge of these
schools are requested to report to Ananda College today to finalise
the venues and the dates for the matches.
In addition Ibbagamuwa MV and Meepawala Amarasuriya MV Galle have
entered the semifinals of the under 17 Division three tournament.
Basnayake dies in accident

Wilfred Basnayake former Maliyadeva and Air Force cricketer died in an
accident on Thursday.
He became the Observer outstation schools best batsman in the early
sixties. He joined the Air Force in 1964 and played cricket for nearly
two decades in all three divisions and captained the Division two in
1980.
He was the cricket Coach at Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala.
His funeral will take place on Sunday evening at the family burial
grounds at Ginipenda, Kalugamuwa.
He leaves his wife and two sons
