World Blind CC chairman to visit Lanka
Mr. George Abraham, Chairman of the World Blind Cricket Council,
in consultation with the National Federation of Sports for the
Disabled in Sri Lanka, will be visiting Sri Lanka from April 28
to 30. His visit is to launch a promotional campaign for the
forthcoming World Cup cricket tourney for the blind, scheduled
to be played in India at the end of this year.
To mark this event, the Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually
Handicapped and the Sri Lanka Council for the blind, have
arranged to play an exhibition cricket match on Tuesday April 28
at the School for the blind, Ratmalana, commencing at 10 am.
This match will be the first trial to select the Sri Lankan team
for the world tourney.
Special awards will be on offer for the Best Allrounder, Best
Batsman and Best Bowlers in the blind and partially sighted
categories.
The match is being sponsored and financed by MJF. Lion Lady Sue
Karunaratne.
Six-a-side tourney at Nuwara Eliya

Nine Mayors of local bodies in Sri Lanka and their cricket teams
will be seen in action when they are billed to play a six-a-side
cricket tourney at Nuwara Eliya hosted by the Nuwara Eliya
Municipal council and its Mayor Bandula Seneviratne. The
tournament is being sponsored by the Ceylon Brewery Limited,
with a handsome donation of Rs. 42,000 and conducted under the
auspices of the Summer Hill Sports club of Nuwara eliya.
The Mayors teams will comprise Colombo (two teams), Trincomalee,
Dehiwela, Nuwara Eliya, Matale, Badulla and Kandy MCs.
This is the first occasion, such a match is being played in
Nuwara Eliya.
