ADELAIDE, Australia, Jan 26 (AFP) - The International Cricket Council
postponed a code of conduct hearing Tuesday into Sri Lankan captain
Arjuna Ranatunga's behaviour during last week's controversial one-day
match against England.
Match referee Peter van der Merwe issued a brief statement through the
Australian Cricket Board but refused to comment further and Ranatunga
refused to speak to reporters as he left the Adelaide Oval.
The Sri Lankan captain was called before the hearing after Saturday's
controversial one-day match against England in which Sri Lankan bowler
Muttiah Muralitharan was no balled for throwing by umpire Ross
Emerson.
Following the call Ranatunga held a heated exchange with the umpire
and halted play for 12 minutes while van der Merwe and Sri Lankan
cricket officials were called to quell the situation.
Van der Merwe did not say when a fresh hearing into Ranatunga's
behaviour would be held.
