Australian Test umpire Steve Randell appeared in Hobart
Magistrate's Court today charged with eleven counts of indecent
assault dating back to 1982. He was not asked to plead and was
released on bail as his case was adjourned until July 16. Television
reports tonight said that he had stood down from all umpiring
responsibilites pending the outcome of the case.
Randell, who is 42 years of age and a school teacher by profession,
has stood in 36 Test matches - the most of any Australian umpire. He
is on the ICC panel of international umpires, and had been scheduled
to stand in the First Test between England and South Africa commencing
June 4.
