Teams named for Derbyshire Premier League
The League Cricket Review
The Derbyshire Cricket Board have made a decision to set up a
Derbyshire Premier League in l999, and they have nominated the 12
teams who will compete. In addition, four reserves have been named in
case some of the nominated teams drop out.
Nine of the nominated teams come from the existing Premier Division l
of the Derbyshire County League. They are: Alvaston & Boulton, Denby,
Heanor Town, Ilkeston Rutland, Langley Mill, Ockbrook & Borrowash,
Quarndon, Shipley Hall and Stainsby. The two teams from outside the
Derbyshire County League are Chesterfield from the Bassetlaw League
and Sandiacre Town from the Gun & Moore Alliance League. The four
reserve teams are Clifton, Lullington Park and Wirksworth from the
Derbyshire County League Premier Division 2, and Staveley from the
Bassetlaw League. Teams were chosen on the basis of their recent
strength, their facilities, their future prospects and the quality of
their administration. The Board have made a proviso concerning Sawley,
who play on a public park at Long Eaton, that improvements are carried
out to bring their facilities up to the standards specified by the
Board.
The running of the League will be determined by the 12 member teams,
and a start will be made at a meeting called for 22 June when all the
nominated teams will be represented. The probability is that they will
opt for one day games of 55 overs. Since the England & Wales Cricket
Board recommend a minimum of 60 overs it would therefore be difficult
to get official accreditation, but no doubt such a decision would be
seen as a move in the right direction.
