Umpires should receive more assistance from new technology when having to make difficult decisions, Nasser Hussain has said, after he was the victim of two misjudgements during the Faisalabad Test match.
Admitting he was going through an unlucky phase at the hands of the umpires in Pakistan, the England captain echoed the thoughts expressed by coach Duncan Fletcher earlier in the week that it was time for the third umpire rules to be reviewed.
"Looking around the world at decisions and all the scrutiny that is given to
them by television, it might be time for more technology to happen, but that's
up to other people to decide," he explained.
"I have no problem with the umpires because they have a difficult job to do
and I'm not going to slag them off - at the moment things are going against me
personally, but I have to be positive about that.
"People who play the game realise the umpires have a difficult job to do and
as long as they are consistent and they have made an honest mistake, we have no
problem."
"After looking at the replays of the first innings and everyone saying well
done for walking off, when it happened again I just didn't know what to do - I
was in a complete state of shock," he said.
"You prepare yourself and you feel you're just starting to hit the ball
better and you go out there and get a few knocks.
"People think you put your pads on and go out there and it's all forgotten,
but it's not - there are mental things which happen to you when you're batting.
"I have to make sure I'm mentally strong enough to pick myself up for the
next match because this Test has obviously knocked me a little bit mentally.
"I was trying to make a contribution, but things are being taken
out of my hands and I can only control the controllables. It would have really
hurt if we'd lost that Test because we didn't deserve to.
