Tasmania will play Western Australia in the country's second interstate Twenty20 match at Bellerive Oval on Australia Day. The Tasmanian Cricket Association announced the fixture today after the sell-out success of last week's games between Australia A and Pakistan at Adelaide, and Western Australia and Victoria at Perth.
The Twenty20 match will be played before the Pura Cup clash between the Tigers and the Warriors, which starts on Friday. Cricket Australia is planning a domestic competition for next summer following the format's instant appeal to spectators. "Twenty20 has been hugely successful in its first two matches in Australia and the Australia Day holiday is a perfect opportunity to play the game in Tasmania," David Johnston, the TCA's chief executive, said.
