The England Captaincy
Alec Stewart for Test matches
Adam Hollioake for One-Day Series
At 10.30am on Tuesday 5th May the ECB announced
the name of the next English cricket captain at a Lord's
Press Conference. Alec Stewart will lead England in the
Test series against the South Africans. He will also be
in charge of the side in a one-off Test match against
Sri Lankan in August, before heading off for the
Australian tour. Meanwhile Adam Hollioake has been
appointed as the one-day captain; the Texaco Trophy
matches with South Africa begin in just a few weeks time.
The decision comes after Atherton (who led England for a
record 52 Test matches) resigned following the disappointing
England tour of the West Indies. Nasser Hussain was the
other most likely candidate for the position - Chairman of
Selectors David Graveney has consulted the previous captain
on who he thinks should replace him; and what qualities he
believes most important for the job.
Now the decision has been announced, you can send your
comments to the England forum on our online magazine, CricInfo
Interactive.
