The 2008 edition of Wisden Cricketers' Almanack will be published on Thursday, April 10. It is the first Wisden to be edited by Scyld Berry, the Sunday Telegraph cricket correspondent, who takes over from long-time editor Matthew Engel. Scyld will also edit Wisden 2009. The 2008 cover features a classical off-drive by England's Kevin Pietersen.
The most famous sports book in the world, Wisden has been published every year since 1864. Wisden 2008, the 145th consecutive edition, will name the Five Cricketers of the Year, continuing a tradition dating back to 1889, as well as garlanding the Leading Cricketer in the World for 2007.
For the first time, the 2008 edition of Wisdenwill include an award for the leading schools cricketer. The Young Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year award will be the focal point of Wisden's traditional schools section and will be sponsored by A. & C. Black, publishers of Young Wisden, the first cricket book for young people to be published in association with Wisden.
Wisden also goes seriously digital for the first time this year, as the 2008 edition will be available as a fully-searchable e-book edition online - as will the 2006 and 2007 editions. The e-book will be available for purchase from April 10 via www.wisden.com.
