West Indies v Australia

Wisden's review of the second match, West Indies v Australia

15-Apr-2017
At Providence, Guyana, June 5, 2016 (day/night). Australia won by six wickets. Australia 5pts. Toss: Australia.
Australia justified their status as tournament favourites, as their spinners skittled West Indies for 116 - their third-lowest one-day total in the Caribbean. Put in, they had been 50 for one, but Marsh saw off Bravo, and Starc - who, on his return from foot surgery, had already removed Fletcher in the first over - found trademark swing to get rid of Charles. Then the slow bowlers took charge: offering subtle variations in angle and pace, Lyon, Zampa and Maxwell took a combined seven for 58 to leave West Indies in dire straits. A large Sunday crowd - agitated by the lack of Guyanese representation - found little to cheer, as Australia knocked off the target in the 26th over. Narine had removed Smith and Maxwell in the 20th, and continued to pose a threat, but Warner carried over his IPL form to hold the chase together and earn Australia a bonus point. "We played some horrible shots," admitted Holder, the West Indies captain.
Man of the Match: N. M. Lyon.
