Worcestershire 350 for 9 dec and 71 for 0 defeated Derbyshire 135 and 285 (Di Venuto 111, Stubbings 58, Batty 5-87) by ten wickets
Scorecard
Worcestershire eased to a comprehensive ten-wicket victory against Derbyshire on the final morning at the County Ground. Stephen Peters (39 not out) and Stephen Moore (26 not out) steered the visitors to a comfortable win, sharing an unbroken stand of 71, after Worcestershire's bowlers shot out the home side for 285. Gareth Batty finally removed the opener Stephen Stubbings (58) and once David Wigley dismissed Luke Sutton fell for 47, Derbyshire's innings unraveled: they lost their last five wickets for just 26 runs. Batty ended with 5 for 87, while Wigley wrapped up the innings, helping himself to 4 for 68.
Essex 401 for 4 dec (Jefferson 149, Flower G 69, Flower 62*) drew with Yorkshire 205 (White 59, Slverwood 57) and 105 for 2 (Jaques 67*)
Scorecard
Essex added just seven runs to their overnight total before declaring on 401 for 4 as their rain-scuppered match against Yorkshire ended in a predictable draw. Alex Tudor removed both Phil Jaques (2) and Anthony McGrath (4) to leave Yorkshire on 12 for 2, and that become 90 for 7 before Chris Silverwood and Chris White added some respectability with an eighth-wicket stand of 81. Yorkshire, bowled out for 205, followed on and Tudor struck again, holding a return catch off Matthew Wood who fell without scoring. But McGrath and Jaques fared better in the second innings, and staved off any hopes of an Essex victory, with a solid stand of 51 for the second wicket. No more wickets fell before the close and Jaques ended unbeaten on 67.
Lancashire 323 and 195 for 5 dec (Loye 92, Horton 41) drew with Somerset 272 (Blackwell 122) and 69 for 3
Scorecard
Somerset drew with Lancashire at Old Trafford after refusing to chase an unrealistic target of 247 from 31 overs. Lancashire turned their second innings overnight lead of 33 into a healthy one, striding to 195 for 5 before declaring at tea on a final day in which rain again interfered with proceedings, delaying the start by an hour. Once play got underway Mal Loye fell for 92 and Paul Horton made a career-best 41. Dominic Cork took three catches as Lancashire reduced Somerset to 65 for 3, but a draw was always the likely outcome.
