Yorkshire completed a rapid eight wicket victory inside two and a half
hours over Leicestershire to lift their chances of winning the National
League 1st Division. Matthew Hoggard and Chris Silverwood took nine wickets
between them to demolish Leicestershire for 53. Darren Lehmann gave Anil
Kumble some stick towards the end as Yorkshire reached their target in just
14.5 overs.
At Worcester, Somerset inflicted a 53 run defeat on hosts Worcestershire.
For the winners Jamie Cox and Michael Burns scored fifties apiece but Test
star Marcus Trescothick was out for 27. Northamptonshire beat Sussex by six
wickets at Eastbourne thanks to a classy unbeaten 84 from David Sales.
Earlier Richard Montgomerie's 89 had propped up Sussex to 196 against a
rampant Tony Penberthy who took 4/32.
In Division Two, Alan Mullaly continued his hot streak with a four wicket
haul as Hampshire pegged back Essex to 184/8. Robin Smith and Derek Kenway
then added 120 for the first wicket to lead Hampshire to an eight wicket
victory. Surrey scored over Derbyshire at the Oval with Adam Hollioake and
Jason Ratcliffe easing the hosts through to their target of 176 with an
over to spare in this 45 overs a side game. Earlier leg spinner Ian
Salisbury bagged 3/32 in Derbyshire's innings of 175/9. At Colwyn Bay,
Nottinghamshire beat Glamorgan by eight wickets under the Duckworth-Lewis
method.
