Mumbai drop Prithvi Shaw for poor fitness and 'general conduct'

Akhil Herwadkar and Karsh Kothari have been drafted into the squad as replacements

Prithvi Shaw has been left out of the Mumbai squad for their next Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match, against Tripura away in Agartala, owing to fitness and disciplinary issues.
Shaw, the right-hand opening batter who has played five Tests, six ODIs and one T20I for India, seems to have run into trouble. It is reliably learnt that the 24-year-old does not regularly attend the team's training sessions and has also appeared a "little overweight".
"You have to look at his fitness and his running when he is on the field. The MCA has a rich history and there cannot be exceptions for a certain player," an official from Mumbai Cricket Association told PTI.

Samson to play Ranji Trophy second round

Sachin Baby will continue to lead the Kerala side

Fresh off his scintillating 40-ball T20I century against Bangladesh in Hyderabad last week, Sanju Samson is set to turn up for Kerala for the second round of Ranji Trophy starting on October 18. ESPNcricinfo has learnt that Samson will continue to play the Ranji Trophy until national duty calls once again.
Samson won't lead Kerala though; Sachin Baby will continue to captain the side, as he did in the first round, in which Kerala registered an eight-wicket win against Punjab in Thumba. Kerala will now play an away fixture, against Karnataka in Alur. Karnataka will be without Prasidh Krishna, who is on reserves duty with the India squad that's playing New Zealand.
Samson had also played four games of the Ranji Trophy last season to score 177 runs with an average of 35.40 with a high score of 57. He had also featured in two Duleep Trophy matches to start this domestic season and scored 106, 45, 5 and 40.

Ranji Trophy: Kishan to captain Jharkhand in first two games

Kishan last played a Ranji Trophy game in the 2022-23 season and had skipped the last season

Rajan Raj
09-Oct-2024
Ishan Kishan is back in Jharkhand's Ranji Trophy team, that too as captain, after missing the 2023-24 season, and last leading the side in 2018-19. Virat Singh, the captain from the previous season - though Saurabh Tiwary led in their last match, after which he retired - has been named Kishan's deputy.
Kishan recently turned out for Rest of India against Mumbai in the Irani Cup, and scored 38 in his only innings. He only kept wickets on the final day, with Dhruv Jurel playing as the designated wicketkeeper. It is likely to be the same with Jharkhand, where Kushagra is the designated wicketkeeper. Prior to the Irani Cup, Kishan had played two matches for India C in the Duleep Trophy, which marked his return to domestic first-class cricket after December 2022.
During this period, Kishan had also lost his BCCI central contract - along with Shreyas Iyer - with a BCCI statement reiterating its recent stance that "all athletes give precedence to participating in domestic cricket during periods when they are not representing the national team".

Suryakumar picks up hand injury during Buchi Babu tournament

Whether the injury puts his participation in the Duleep Trophy in doubt or not is not clear at this stage

Suryakumar Yadav's participation in Mumbai's Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament match against Tamil Nadu Cricket Association XI in Coimbatore lasted just 38 balls after he picked up an injury while fielding. Whether the injury puts his participation in the upcoming Duleep Trophy in doubt or not is not known at this stage.
It wasn't a great outing for Mumbai either, as they scored just 156 in reply to TNCA XI's 379, after which TNCA XI scored 286 to set Mumbai 510 to win.
The tournaments, both the Buchi Babu and the Duleep - which starts on September 5 - are important for Suryakumar as he, India's T20I captain, looks to force his way back into India's Test team.

An ankle injury has sidelined him from all cricket since the ODI World Cup in last November

He is expected to continue training under the National Cricket Academy's watch in Bengaluru.
Earlier this month, PTI had reported that Shami will play either one or both of Bengal's away match against Uttar Pradesh, which begins on October 11, and home fixture against Bihar, which will start on October 18.
