Sri Lanka 184 for 4 (Athapaththu 119*, Duraisingam 2-34) beat Malaysia 40 (Hunter 10, Gimhani 3-9) by 144 runs
Chamari Athapaththu's T20I best - an unbeaten 119 off 69 balls - formed the heart and soul of Sri Lanka's crushing win over Malaysia at the Women's Asia Cup in Dambulla.
There was also a dream outing for 15-year-old ambidextrous wristspinner Shashini Gimhani, who picked up 3 for 9 with her left-arm wristspin to send Malaysia on a tailspin in the powerplay from which they couldn't recover, making it one-way traffic from start to finish.

Rilee Rossouw bludgeoned 106 off 53 balls, Kusal Mendis crashed 72 off 40 of his own, and together sent Jaffna Kings soaring to a target of 185, inside 16 overs. It was a record-breaking chase on at least two fronts. Their unbroken stand of 185 (Pathum Nissanka had been out first ball), was the highest for any wicket, across all LPL seasons. Kings' chase was the highest in any LPL tournament.
And their victory means that a Jaffna franchise has won four out of the five LPL tournaments staged, having only missed out in 2023.
Rossouw and Mendis' sublime hitting will rightly be admired as perhaps the greatest partnership this tournament has produced, given it came in a final in front of a full house at Khettarama. But Jaffna had dominated another key passage of the game. Through excellent bowling from Jason Behrendorff, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Fabian Allen, they had had Galle Marvels by the collar at 23 for 3 after seven overs.
They recovered through an outstanding innings by Bhanuka Rajapaksa, but clearly their 184 for 6 was not sufficient to deny Mendis and Rossouw in such form.

Pakistan kept their Women's Asia Cup campaign alive with a thumping nine-wicket win over Nepal in Dambulla on Sunday evening.
Having lost their opening game to India, Pakistan were in a must-win situation and did not let their fans down. Nepal started briskly after being sent in. They had a strong finish as well. But the Pakistan bowlers and fielders - there were three run-outs - caused enough damage in the middle overs to restrict Nepal to 108 for 6. Gull Feroza and Muneeba Ali then smashed 105 in just 11.2 overs to kill the game. Feroza was the aggressor, scoring 57 off 35 balls, while Muneeba stayed unbeaten on 46 off 34.

Shoaib Bashir's first five-wicket haul on English soil sealed victory inside four days for the hosts, after Joe Root and Harry Brook had set England up against West Indies in the second Test at Trent Bridge.
Root and Brook each scored centuries before the hosts were bowled out for 425 in their second innings - the first time in England's history that they had scored 400 in both innings of a Test - setting West Indies a target of 385.

An excellent all-round show from Sri Lanka in the field, backed up by Vishmi Gunaratne's steady half-century, helped Sri Lanka start their Women's Asia Cup 2024 in style as they beat Bangladesh by seven wickets in Dambulla.
After Bangladesh elected to bat, everything that could have gone wrong for them did as they lost four wickets inside the powerplay. It needed captain Nigar Sultana playing an anchor role and some lower-order hitting from Shorna Akter, who smashed 25 off 14 balls, to take Bangladesh to 111 for 8.

It was not the perfect game but Thailand got their Women's Asia Cup 2024 campaign off to a winning start, keeping their perfect record over Malaysia in T20Is intact.
Thailand missed a couple of key batters due to injuries, and were being led by a new, young captain Thipatcha Putthawong. But thanks to wicketkeeper-batter Nannapat Koncharoenkai's 35-ball 40, they managed to post a challenging 133 for 6 after opting to bat. And then, despite a 68-run opening partnership by Malaysia, they beat them by 22 runs.
