Brathwaite?'s Construction Lords made an impressive start in the BCA
Division 2 final at the Barclays ground, Highgate yesterday.
The St. Lucy-based team by dismissed Barbados Fire Service for 165 and
by the close, had replied with 19 for one.
After winning the toss, Lords invited the Barbados Fire service to bat
and off-spinner Trevor Boyce triggered a middle-order collapse after
the opponents were cruising at 62 for three.
Operating from the northern end, Boyce trapped opener Anderson Mapp
lbw after posting 32 for the first wicket with his twin brother Alvin.
Patrick Smith and Lonsdale Blake added 38 for the third wicket before
Boyce, in tandem with Deryck Greaves, intervened to share six wickets.
A positive eight wicket stand of 40 between Ernie Fields and Ryan
Sargeant and 23 for the ninth with Wilfred Moseley brought some
respectability to the Fire Service?s batting.
Fields, stroking the ball well, made 38 off 69 deliveries with two
fours before he was last out, bowled by David Bowen. Boyce, a former
Maple Division 1 player, finished with five for 73 off 20 overs while
Greaves picked up three for 29.
Marcus Wickham struck an early blow for the Fire Service removing
Junior Collymore, who was bowled with out scoring. But captain Douglas
Johnson and Boyce batted without any further alarms until the umpires
offered light seven minutes early.
