Scorecard

Sara McGlashan smashed 43 from 29 balls and Kate Broadmore picked up three wickets to help New Zealand women beat Australia women by 19 runs in the third Twenty20 of the Rose Bowl series.

After electing to bat at Queens Park in Invercargill, New Zealand's openers Aimee Watkins and Suzie Bates got the team off to an ideal start, scoring 44 in five overs. Sara McGlashan came in at No. 4 and consolidated the strong start, hitting an unbeaten 43 off 29 balls with four fours and a six.

While there were no other big contributors with the bat, the line-up played around McGlashan, propelling New Zealand to 138 for 6. The pick of the Australia bowlers was Shelley Nitschke, who picked up the important wicket of Watkins and conceded just 11 runs off her four overs.

The Australian chase began badly, with the opening pair departing with the time the score still 13. No. 3 batsman Leah Poulton showed some resistance with her 27 off 19 balls, but once she was picked up by Broadmore, there was not much fight shown from elsewhere. Broadmore went on to take career best figures of 3 for 15, as Australia lost their last five wickets for 19 runs.

The first two matches of the series were played in December 2010. While the first match was washed out, Australia won the second by four wickets. The fourth game of the five-match series will be played on February 19 at the same venue.
