Slower length ball zinging back from outside off, patiently chops it to point and tears across for the winning runs!
Seattle vs Los Angeles, 15th Match at Morrisville, MLC, Jul 17 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Los Angeles won by 4 wickets (with 5 balls remaining)
Los Angeles Knight Riders held their nerve and got over the line, albeit with some hiccups. Seattle Orcas remain stuck in a rut, languishing at the bottom of the table. Handy contributions from Jason Roy and Unmukt Chand broke the back of the chase and a mini partnership between Nitish Kumar and Saif Badar kept them on course. Andre Russell eased the tension with a few hits towards the end as they won with five ball to spare. Orcas fell short by 15-20 runs and those run-outs of de Kock and Heinrich Klassen will haunt them in hindsight as they lacked a fiery finish with the bat. Ryan Rickelton was a treat to watch once again and is in red-hot form this season but he didn't get much support from his teammates and, as a result, they failed to post an imposing total. SO kept fighting till the end with the ball and managed to break partnerships as Harmeet Singh and Cameron Gannon picked up two wickets apiece and Keemo Paul kept it tight, returning 1/25. LAKR looked hungrier and resolute on bagging the two vital points and got the desired result in the end. A win is a win and this much-needed win brightens LAKR's prospects of staying in the top four with one more game to play
The caravan will now move to Dallas for the business end of the tournament. Time for me to catch some Z's. See you later with more MLC action!
Sagar: "It will be good for Chand to stay till the end and build his confidence before the knockouts"
Short of a length and follows him as he wanders outside leg-stump, flicked to vacant short fine and de Kock runs back, throws at batter's end and perhaps isn't that quick as they scurry back for the second
Wanted to finish it in style but instead got caught at deep midwicket as Aaron Janes took a phenomenal catch inches inside the rope, it was in the slot - a length ball directed at the stumps - and he went for a wallop but just got more elevation and also it didn't quite come off the middle, he wanted to finish the game so badly on his own. Russell can't believe what he has done
Goes short on the body, pulled to deep square, just one hit away from a vital win
Banged in short outside off, thrashes it imperiously to long-off, Russell doing Russell things, thrives at this role, knows the team is only few hits away and is backing himself
Swung down the ground for six! Pace-off back of a length ball just outside off, gives himself some room and then takes the aerial route. That left a dent!
Prasanna S: "Russell will pull this off for sure."
Short and dancing away wide of off, pulled down the ground to long-off, evades Gannon who went one-handed to pouch that
Blazed! Breaks the shackles with a timely six over deep backward square, full-toss is a cardinal sin at this stage. He gets low and carts it away for a flat six, that will calm LAKR's dressing room as they all clap
Thumped hard into the surface on a short length and it curves away outside off, slackens the pace, pulled off the backfoot to midwicket, it's getting tighter
Huge swing towards midwicket, was a full-toss on sixth stump outside off, fell short of Keemo Paul
Tight line from Ngidi! Back of a length and curling it back from sixth stump, swishes at thin air
Improvisation coming into play, it was a shortish ball at middle, stands front-on and scoops it over keeper's head, two fielders running back and they manage to cut it off, Rickelton and Jayasuriya working in tandem
Over the wicket, spears a snorter on a hard length and it rises insanely off the deck hitting his forearm, beating his pull
Watches closely and follows the path as it spins away from off, gets the middle on this occasion, guiding it away from first slip
Bowls a peach! Good length and straightens a touch on fifth stump line, beats his outside edge
Puts on the dancing shoes and looks to put him into the stands, that ball hung in the air for a long while before finding a nest in Rickelton's hands at long-on; he is safe as a house anywhere in the field. This is the wicket SO were after and it's a turning point, maybe a little late but they can create panic if they continue to pick wickets. An excellent knock comes to an end although he must be admonishing himself for not being able to finish
Lobbed up while following him as he shimmied down leg, held his shape, waited a touch and then powered it away to deep extra cover
Plants his front leg and sweeps it away to deep backward square region
Fraction short and slow in the air at middle, thrashed away off the backfoot to deep midwicket
Fuller and offers width to work with, he clatters it to sweeper cover. Time for a little break
Over 20 • LAKR 143/6
