De Bruyn ton steamrolls Liberal Arts

Theunis de Bruyn, the Assupol TUKS captain, razed 137 off 60 balls to rout University of Liberal Arts by 114 runs. Arriving after an early wicket, his counterattack included 12 fours and eight sixes.

De Bruyn wrest control back when Assupol slipped from 125 for 1 to 148 for 4 with 23 balls remaining. Yet his belligerence powered Assupol to a daunting 205. He took a particular liking to seamer Abdullah Imran, who conceded 63 runs in his four overs.

Tanmay Roy was Liberal Arts' only positive, taking 2 for 26, considering it took the no. 7 batsman, Mashkur Rahman to provide the top score - 20 - in the chase. Their top five wickets were sent back before they reached 50. Since then it simply boiled down to lasting the full quota and they finished at 91 for 7.

Sumit Ghadigaonkar lashed 76 off 57 balls to steamroll ICBT Campus by nine wickets. Rizvi Mumbai overhauled a target of 120 with more than three overs to spare courtesy his eight fours and two sixes.

The ICBT Campus batsmen managed starts, but continuously fell short of converting them. Captain Udara Hettige (26) provided the team with a good start but it was diluted by a middle-order wobble. They were 96 for 5 from 68 for 1 and the slide put paid to all hopes of acceleration towards the end. Left-arm spinner Aditya Dhumal picked up 2 for 23.

Nicholas Walker hurried to 58 off 49 balls and though only his opening partner got to double-figures in the line-up, University of New South Wales hung on for a two-run win over Karachi University.

Three fours and three sixes were part of Walker's knock as he powered an opening stand of 65. He carried a second-wicket stand 40 runs before the innings crumbled. Karachi University's bowlers combined to hammer seven wickets for 13 runs.

The target of 115 looked complicated when both Karachi openers bagged ducks. Zakir Ali (35) and Safiullah Bangash (36) hustled busy knocks to take the game into the final overs. However, they were pried out and the tail was left to scrounge a little too many.

Chrishna Graham ripped out the Leeds/ Bradford Marylebone Cricket Club University top order to claim 3 for 19 to help Jamaica Inter-Collegiate Sports Assoc off to a winning start in the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals in Aston Rowant.

Only four players got into double-figures, while chasing 97, and none of them got past 14. They lost five wickets moving from 20 to 30 and post no real threat thereafter to be bundled out for 72.

Jamaica's success didn't look likely after they succumbed for 96 after being inserted. Seamer Zafir Patel took 4 for 13 and was pivotal to Jamaica fumbling from 81 for 5 in the 16th over. However, a 37-run stand between top-scorer Delbert Gayle and Cassius Burton ended up as match-winning.
