it's all over on the penultimate ball! Chigumbura, after a patient innings, lofts it as if he is giving catch practice after it pitched on length on the stumps for an easy catch to mid-on
Zimbabwe vs South Africa, 1st ODI at Bulawayo, Aug 17 2014 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Time for the presentation
Elton Chigumbura: We did well, but maybe our bowlers gave 20 runs extra. In batting, we lost too many wickets early on so it was also hard to come back. Yea, I've hurt my quad but I think I'll be fine for the next game. Wickets in hand was the key to win this game or for a better result in the future.
AB de Villiers: Very happy. Zimbabwe is a dangerous team at home. Hashim played an amazing knock and Faf played well around him. The target in our mind was about 250 so we were very happy with 300+ especially with the last 10 overs, special congratulations to Hashim. Nice to see that we can win games without Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Vernon Philander, it shows our depth in bowling. Most important for me is to get results and field our best XI in every match, we have a lot of talent.
Hashim Amla is the Man of the Match: It was difficult to bat today and it's always nice to get runs. First thing to do was to assess conditions and then score a few boundaries which helped him [de Kock] and settled him. I kind of played the anchor role. He doesn't listen to me [laughs]. He's a fantastic player, not many youngsters do what he has been doing. We were trying to score at run-a-ball and then AB and others come in so they got us past 300.
That's all from me, Vishal Dikshit, from this match. Hope you enjoyed our coverage of this game. Join us again for the second ODI day after tomorrow, on Tuesday. Till then it's goodbye!
5.22pm So Zimbabwe have been dismissed for 216, falling short by 93 runs. It was always going to be tough to chase 310, even though it's not a full-strength SA bowling line-up. Their openers fell early but H Masakadza and Williams put on 100 runs together which must have given SA a slight scare. But once they fell, it was all going downhill for the hosts even though Chigumbura tried his best to survive the 50 overs, and spinners Tahir and Phangiso picked up three wickets each.
Earlier, it was yet another strong batting display from SA, Amla's 15th hundred and fifties from de Kock and du Plessis meant they were not going to give Zimbabwe an easy target.
