1st World Cup of Blind Cricket to be played in New Delhi, India.
Mr. George Abraham, Chairman of the World Blind Cricket Council
has announced that the first ever world cup of blind cricket
will be played in November 1998.
Teams from seven countries will compete, they are: India, Sri
Lanka, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, England and South
Africa.
"The tournament is shaping up to be a great success" Mr. Abraham
said. "We in India are very proud to have the privilege of
hosting this historic event and plans are well under way to
ensure all players and officials are well looked after."
Blind Cricket internationally will be played with a small hard
plastic ball filled with lead, but plans are underfoot to
develop a ball that will attract more players and countries.
The rules of the game are the same as traditional cricket except
that a game comprises forty overs per team instead of the usual
fifty. Teams are broken into three categories of players
depending on eyesight and competition is fierce in all members
countries.
